The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a 1 year positions as PostDoc in the area of Integrated Energy Systems. The position is located at the section Electrical Engineering in Sønderborg within the Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE). Starting date is January 1st, 2024, or as soon as possible.

Sønderborg is an international campus with students from more than 60 nationalities. The Faculty of Engineering is represented by the Department of mechanical and electrical engineering (DME). Recently, in a partnership with local actors, the Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE) has been founded, which is part of the section Electrical Engineering at DME.

The task portfolio of the PostDoc will be linked to one main project and several smaller projects within CIE. CIE is embedded in a powerhouse in electronics, which includes researchers and developers at universities and industries on both sides of the Danish-German border. CIE is a new initiative striving for high quality and great impact of its research, innovation and education. Central to achieving this objective is access to state-of-the-art facilities and close collaborations with industries.

The aim of the position is to build strong knowledge and competencies within the field of multi-energy systems with focuses on life cycle sustainability assessment.

Job description
The successful candidate must have experience in developing models which will be able to assess the life cycle sustainability (LCS) of the planned energy systems and has competencies in most of the following areas:

  • Sustainability indicators for assessing LCS of technologies in energy systems.
  • Methods for assessing the LCS of different technologies employed in energy systems.
  • Development of new techniques for measuring sustainability about environmental, economic, and social indicators.
  • Sector coupling and study of LCS of the integrated energy system.
  • LCSA for changing energy systems' optimal energy mix and promoting their carbon neutrality.
  • You will be involved in the daily supervision of PhD, Master and Bachelor students that perform research on similar topic.
  • You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
  • You will assist in teaching activities.

Profile and requirements

  • You have a PhD degree in Power systems or related fields.
  • You have experience in hardware design and measurements
  • You have published in high-impact conferences and journals in the field of power systems, energy systems, life cycle sustainability assessment and simulation.
  • You are a team player and have strong communication skills.
  • You are interested in a longer-term commitment in a growing research group, and you are willing to work in close cooperation with industry.
  • You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • A track record in participating in national and/or European research projects is a plus. 

The position is limited in time for 1 year.

Conditions of employment
Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level. Employment as a postdoc is temporary and will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur to a limited degree. The Faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
